Betrayal
in Antara
Preview
Welcome to the Antaran Empire. This Empire was
forged generations ago by a king who covertly
gathered mages to his side and used them to unite
the provinces under his banner. Although created
with benevolent intentions, over time the
Imperial institutions have fallen prey to
corruption and decay.
Today, a
well-meaning Emperor is faced with a decadent and
crumbling infrastructure where bribery, nepotism,
intrigue, assassination, deceit and intrigue are
rampant. Our story takes place against this
backdrop. The player characters become embroiled
in a devious plot of manipulation, political
agendas, secret societies, racial hatred, magical
discoveries, abduction, and assassination. Their
involvement takes them across (and beneath) the
Eastern realms of Antara. It is a journey with
dramatic ramifications for each of them -- and
for the Empire.
If you haven't
played Betrayal At Krondor, you should download
it (get the link from below), and play it.
Because Antara has the same flair as the
original, as well it should since it is based on
the same game engine. One of the primary
differences is that the graphics are a lot
better. The first ones graphics seemed kind of
grainy, but Antara has rectified that problem.
The gameplay
is the same, which was one of the strong suits of
the original. You still have a arrow based
control panel that is used to move around. You
still have icons, to camp, check the map, save
the game, etc. When camping there is still a Sun
dial that is used to specificy how long you are
going to stay in camp. When viewing characters
you still drag and drop to arm a character, or to
trade with another.
When
communicating with the various denizens of
Antara, a little head appears for characters that
can hold conversations. Once you have selected a
character to have a conversation with, you are
given a list of topics, and the character will
react differently to the topics. These topics are
the areas that the character has some knowledge,
you select a topic (ask a predefined question)
and the character will go into a speech on the
subject. This is a time saving way to hold
conversations, and it also move plot along, since
the Player character does not spend to much
wasted time trying to figure out what to ask the
character.
All in all
Betrayal in Antara plays the same as Betrayal At
Krondor (which is an extremely fun game) except
the graphics are better. Download the demo and
try it out.
